Be Human Be Mindful Curiosity

One thing a day…

Last week I wrote about doing one thing a day that scares you. A friend (and reader of this blog) commented on being excited about the title of the piece being “Do one thing a day…” Until he read it was doing one thing a day that scares you. Alright, that’s fair. Being scared is not for everyone.

So that got me thinking…

Do one thing a day.

One thing.

Maybe it’s not one thing a day that scares you. Maybe it’s one thing a day that you’re grateful for at the end of the day. One thing to write in a gratitude journal.

One thing.

Perhaps it’s not one thing a day to be grateful for. Perhaps it’s one thing that gets your body moving, your heart rate up, your blood flowing. To feel fully alive.

One thing.

It’s possible body moving, heart rate up, blood flowing is not your style. It’s possible your one thing is to sit quietly, breathe deeply, find peace. Zen.

One thing.

Yet sitting, breathing and peace may not be your one thing. Your one thing might be exploring something new, learning a new skill, or making a new friend. Go seek out the new.

One thing.

That’s it.

One thing.

If I were my own best friend I would tell myself to figure out my one thing. Get curious. Is it being scared or active or grateful? Seeking out new things or finding peace? Is it spiritual or emotional or physical? Singing or dancing or drawing or knitting? Walking? Communing? Connecting?

Do that one thing every day. That one thing that lights you up inside (you and only you). One thing.

This one’s for you Joe. Do your one thing.
