Be Human Joy

Celebrate the small successes.

I am inching ever closer to completing and shipping a big project. All the small steps are starting to add up to one big, final thing that will be released into the world.

I have mixed feelings about it right now. Looking forward to it being done. Uncertain about how it will be received. Excited to do this thing I have been wanting to do for a long time. Disgruntled with the whole process. Fatigued from the minutiae. Energized by the constant learning. Nervous.

There have been so many small steps along the way. Looking back it all started with a word, then two, then a paragraph. And it grew from there. But I never celebrated each step. I saved it all until it was done.

If I were my own best friend I would go back in to time, and tell myself to celebrate each small step. Each small moment of learning, of stepping out of my comfort zone, of taking a chance – they have all been worthy of celebration. So, celebrate along the way! (I believe it might be more fun that way!)

  1. I think one of the best parts about Writing in Community is that everyone reading and commenting helped to celebrate the various little bits of achievement, showing up to having a more complete story or book that is off to the readers. It’s very easy to not do that very often for oneself.
