I started doing short interviews with families in the area who attend our local elementary school. The plan is to publish the interviews in a twice-monthly newsletter as a way to help us all stay a bit more connected and find commonalities. Our school district remains 100% remote at this time.
One of the lighter or fluffier questions I ask the kids (adults and staff members as well) is “if you could have any super power what would it be?” I expected answers like flying, strength, x-ray vision, fire, water, speed. Fun and fluffy (I thought).
But one of the first kids I interviewed, without missing a beat, said “kindness.”
“Kindness? Like being kind to people? Being nice?” I asked her.
“Yes,” she said simply. Then she added, “kindness is a super power ya know…”
Oh. I was schooled by a five-year old.

So if I were my own best friend I would remind myself kindness is a superpower. Go practice kindness. Go spread it around. I might imagine myself in a cape with a superhero mask on spreading kindness like fairy dust. Simply, be kind.
Thank you to all the 5 year olds out there for keeping real. Precious little critters.
