If I were my own best friend I would remind myself to be thankful for a few more everyday items I might normally take for granted…
***It’s a theme! Three posts in a row about “unsung heroes”! Woohoo.
I know some of you might find this post to be a bit crude (Sorry Mom, I’m talking about bathrooms), but I really am thankful for these things and I often take them for granted. This summer I had the opportunity to go hiking and camping where there were no toilets (flushing, pit or otherwise). When nature called I had to use a special bag (you can’t answer nature in nature anymore, it has to come back out of nature with you) and then carry that bag out with me. Have you ever tried this??? You get to find a “private spot” behind a rock and find your balance and place the bag just-right and do your business and not get anything on you or leave anything behind and then you get to tie it all up and put it in your backpack! After that experience I really really liked any sort of toilet (didn’t even have to flush), toilet paper on a roll, and running water!
Indoor plumbing is something that millions of people live without everyday, and they function and survive just fine. I know I could do it if I had to, I’m just grateful that I don’t right now. So… to the unsung heroes that today include, flushing toilets, toilet paper, and running water to wash your hands with afterwards, I now say THANK YOU!
