Laugh. As often as possible.

***I was sitting in a very crowded coffee shop yesterday and there was a man sitting next to me watching some sort of video on a small mobile device. He had on headphones and I could not hear any of the soundtrack but every few minutes his whole body would start shaking, he would lean forward, tears coming from his eyes, clutch his stomach… and laugh! After I realized he was not having some sort of medical emergency I could not help but smile.
It’s true… laughter is contagious! Or at least in this case, his laughter resulted in a smile on my part. I loved it! How often in a day do you laugh so hard that you have to double-over, wipe your eyes, and breathe deeply afterwards to recover?? Probably not often enough I am guessing.
There are actual scientific studies out there in the world that specifically address the positive healthy effects of laughter. (I am too lazy right now to pull them out and accurately quote them, but trust me, they exist!) So, in the interest of good health – I challenge you to laugh today, and tomorrow, and the next day. If you’re not sure where to start I recommend going to your favorite search engine and typing in “pictures of laughter” and seeing what comes up – at the very least the images will probably make you smile!
