If I were my own best friend I would give myself a recipe for…
What to do with an unexpected gift…
- Smile
- Say “thank you”
- Reflect…
***Life delivers unexpected gifts. Sometimes they come in the form of an actual present that someone gives you. Sometimes they are an opportunity you had never considered before that moment. Sometimes they are an unwelcome change you never wanted. All gifts.
The thing about gifts that my parents instilled into me (and sometimes I forget), is that it is really important to say “thank you.” With that in mind, I figured I would write myself a recipe for what to do when I receive an unexpected gift.
First, you can’t go wrong with smiling – just don’t fake it. Be genuine. Second, say “thank you.” If you’re not thanking an actual person then think about why this gift came your way and send out a silent (or out loud if you want) “thank you” to the universe at large. And finally… if the gift really is unexpected, and maybe a little inconvenient or scary or anger-inducing, then reflect on why it came your way in the first place. I find there is usually a reason; I just have to reflect on it.
So with that being said, I want to say “THANK YOU” for the opportunity to write this blog. It is an unexpected and truly joyful gift in my life. This is my 100th post and I am thrilled that you have joined me for the ride so far. THANK YOU!
Makes me think of that beautiful rainbow yesterday! THAT was a gift.
and, I must say, having you in the same city, THAT is a gift.
Thank you, my friend and sister. Thank you.
